Two comedians. Two free shows. Two album recordings. Two strong drinks recommended.
Los Angeles-based comedians Brock Wilbur and Joe Starr, known for co-hosting the popular podcast Brock Party and the webseries Ready Set Art, will record new comedy albums Saturday, Sept. 20, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., at the Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, 260 22nd St, Denver. Both shows are free and on a first come, first seated basis.
Brock Wilbur is a nationally touring comedian who has appeared on Adult Swim and Comedy Central, and released two previous stand-up comedy albums through San Francisco-based Rooftop Records. He is the star of the feature film Your Friends Close and is featured in advertising campaigns for both Guitar Center and Xbox One and co-wrote the award-winning indie film Act Naturally in addition to the film review collection FILMPOCALYPSE! 52 Cinematic Visions of the End. He also co-hosts a Doctor Who podcast called Laughing At Archaeologists with fellow comedian Rye Silverman.
Joe Starr’s album Heroic Effort was named one of 2013’s Best Free Stand Up albums by pajiba.com. He tours with the stand up group Comics And Comics at pop-culture conventions across the country. A multiple champion of Tournament of Nerds at LA’s Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater, he hosted 100% Wrong on Bitesize.TV
Their friend Rob Ondarza, also of Brock Party fame, will host both shows. He is delightful.
“Brock Wilbur brings a very unique brand of caustically hilarious, self-deprecating humor to the stage. His wit is rooted in a hyper-intelligent, visionary world-view uncommon of someone his age and experience.”
“Wilbur soars with impressive comic effects. Highly recommended.”

“I’m currently on my third listen and still finding new things to love in ‘Heroic Effort’. Joe Starr gels with my immense love of pop-culture satire (pro-wrestling, Batman, Furries acutely dissected). He’s also, a natural performer, dramatic and poised…there’s a lot of options for cheap (or free) comedy but Heroic Effort ranks high in the DIY, self-released echelon.” -courtingcomedy.com
[I’m currently on my third listen and still finding new things to love in ‘Heroic Effort’. Starr gels with my immense love of pop-culture satire (pro-wrestling, Batman, Furries acutely dissected). He’s also, a natural performer, dramatic and poised. Sure, the audio quality is kinda bad — adds to the charm — and there’s a lot of options for cheap (or free) comedy but Heroic Effort ranks high in the DIY, self-released echelon.]
